A House Fire Resolved Quickly

Success Story – A House Fire, Resolved Quickly

Here, we discuss how our in-house Claims Team guided a client through the aftermath of a house fire, ensuring the claims process was handled efficiently and with minimal stress.

The client contacted us immediately after a fire broke out around midday, just after the fire brigade arrived. Understandably anxious about the extent of the damage, they relied on our team for advice and reassurance. We promptly notified the insurer and began setting up the claim with the details available.

The fire had been caused when sunlight reflected off a mirror onto the curtains, igniting them and spreading flames to a sofa and bed. Fortunately, the clients acted quickly, controlling the fire and notifying emergency services. Damage was contained to a single bedroom, with smoke affecting the hallway and adjacent bathroom. The fire brigade had removed some items, along with the carpet to expose the floorboards to prevent further damage, helping limit the impact.

A loss adjuster visited the home the following morning, accompanied by a member of our team. Together, they assessed the damage and coordinated the necessary steps for recovery. A professional cleaner was arranged to address the smoke damage, and quotes were collected for the replacement of damaged items.

One unique challenge was the client’s handmade curtains, which could not simply be replaced. Our team carefully calculated the value of the curtains based on the client’s time and materials, ensuring fair compensation beyond standard replacement costs. After discussions, the client agreed to a settlement to cover the sofa, bed, curtains, carpets, and cleaning costs.

Thanks to proactive communication and coordination, the claim was fully settled within a month, with the client reimbursed for all replacement and restoration costs and related expenses.

We were pleased to receive this feedback from our client: “We found our claim was dealt with very quickly and to our satisfaction, and we would recommend confidently your business’s expertise.”

This case highlights the importance of quick action and clear communication in helping ensure clients can recover from unexpected losses. It also demonstrates why notifying claims promptly is crucial. As discussed in our The Importance Of Notifying Your Insurance Claim Promptly blog, acting quickly can help significantly improve outcomes, minimise stress and help ensure fair compensation is possible.
