McClarrons is pleased to welcome Leigh Adamson to the business as our in-house Client Risk Manager, marking the launch of our Risk Management services.
Leigh brings more than two decades of experience in health and safety and risk management. His appointment adds a new dimension to the support we can provide our clients, helping them take action before risks develop into accidents, claims or costly disruption.
Leigh began his career in Environmental Health, gaining eight years’ experience across food safety, health and safety, housing and pollution control before moving into the private sector. He went on to build his career in health and safety and risk management, joining an insurance broker in York where he helped develop and grow a dedicated risk management team. Over the course of his career, Leigh has supported businesses across a multitude of sectors, including construction, care, engineering, education and other commercial organisations.
His experience covers a broad range of risk management services, including health and safety audits and inspections, fire risk assessments, risk assessments and safe working procedures, construction site inspections, health and safety training, fleet risk management and support with enforcement bodies. Leigh can also assist businesses following accidents or incidents, including with investigations and RIDDOR reporting where required.
As our Client Risk Manager, Leigh will work with clients to help them identify key risks and develop practical, effective approaches to managing them. A key focus will be making health and safety management straightforward and accessible, helping businesses build their own knowledge and confidence rather than creating unnecessary complexity. Leigh can also provide ongoing support, whether that relates to an accident or incident, business continuity planning, an inspection, insurer survey or a specific health and safety concern.
Not only this, where clients do suffer claims, Leigh will be able to assist clients with identifying causes or trends to see if there are gaps in risk management practices that could be addressed to help prevent further, similar instances.
Leigh explains: “A proactive risk management system can hopefully help clients prevent accidents and incidents that can have a significant impact on their business. If robust systems are in place, businesses can be confident that if they receive inspections from enforcement bodies or insurers, there will be nothing to fear.”
For McClarrons, introducing risk management as part of our wider service offering is a natural extension of the support we already provide. While insurance provides valuable protection when things go wrong, proactive risk management can help clients identify potential issues early and take practical steps to reduce the likelihood or impact of an incident. It can also help businesses demonstrate to insurers that they understand their risks and are actively working to manage them. Ultimately, our aim is to support clients throughout their insurance journey – helping them not only prepare for what could go wrong but to take practical steps to prevent problems in the first place.
Having worked within a similar independent, client-focused environment earlier in his career, Leigh was attracted to McClarrons’ reputation and values.
Leigh commented on his appointment: “Although a growing business, McClarrons remains family-owned with a focus on providing high levels of customer service. For many years I worked in a similar environment and feel that this business will continue to provide a great service to clients and enable me to develop long-standing working relationships with local businesses.”
Looking ahead, Leigh’s ambition is to develop McClarrons’ Risk Management services into an integral part of McClarrons’ offering, working closely with our broking and claims teams to provide clients with a joined-up approach to insurance and risk management.
Leigh is looking forward to getting to know McClarrons’ clients and helping them implement systems and processes that can enhance their businesses, reduce risk and minimise disruption. His approach is simple: “My philosophy is to provide simple, straightforward advice and assistance to clients, and I think that McClarrons has a great base of clients who will benefit from our risk management support moving forward.”
Outside of work, Leigh enjoys keeping active and spending time with his family. He plays cricket for his local team at Burn, remains an active member of Selby RUFC, regularly visits the gym and enjoys social cycling with former rugby colleagues.
With Leigh joining the business and the launch of our Risk Management services, we look forward to helping our clients take a more proactive approach to risk – supporting them not only when they need to make a claim but helping them reduce the likelihood and impact of losses in the first place.
