Supporting Local Talent and Raising Awareness of Underinsurance
Since May 2025, McClarrons has been working closely with students from Hull College’s Level 3 Digital Media Production course on an industry style client project designed to replicate the dynamics of a real client and agency relationship. Three groups of three students were given a live brief to produce a promotional video that would raise awareness of underinsurance, a persistent issue for many UK businesses, and how McClarrons can help support businesses to prevent it.
This initiative has been part of our wider commitment to engaging with our local community after launching our Hull office in 2022 and strengthening our presence in the city.
Our collaboration with Hull College
Over the past several months, our Marketing Team and wider business have spent considerable time with students and tutors to guide them through the brief, share insight into the insurance sector and offer constructive feedback at each stage.
Key touchpoints throughout the project included:
- An initial meeting with Hull College heads of department to determine which courses would participate, including Business Studies, Work Experience and Digital Media Production
- A further face-to-face meeting with the Digital Media Production tutors and technicians to understand the structure of the academic year, the different project phases and how they wished us to support throughout the process, educate about our business and target audience, and give the students some guidance around the expectations of the working world
- A Client Introduction Workshop held at Hull College in June, which set the foundations for the brief and allowed students to engage directly with our team
- Follow-up meetings and progress check-ins once the new academic year began in September
- A series of onsite visits that involved filming and voice recording a member of staff, to help students build authentic content and gain experience in directing and capturing a real client representative
- Regular catch-up meetings to ensure alignment and enable each group to keep our Marketing Team fully updated on their creative progress
We have also shared coverage of the project on our LinkedIn page, highlighting our visits and the students’ hard work. These can be viewed here:
Supporting skills and shaping future understanding
Throughout the project, we have enjoyed opening our doors to the students and offering them a tangible experience of working with a commercial client. It has been rewarding to give them insight into the insurance landscape and help demystify the technical considerations surrounding underinsurance, how it can occur and why it has a significant impact on businesses. Knowing that the students may also become future business leaders and creative professionals and helping them to understand these foundations was also valuable to us, and we are pleased to have played a part in supporting the next generation of digital media talent.
We have equally valued the strong engagement of the Hull College team and appreciate the professionalism and creativity that each student group has brought to the brief.
Presenting the final videos
As the students prepared to close for their 2025 Christmas break, they submitted their final videos for assessment. Now, in 2026, we are pleased to present these videos following receipt of the final files from Hull College.
It has been valuable to reflect on the collaboration and the positive impact it has had on both the students and our own team. Each group delivered a distinctive interpretation of the brief, demonstrating development in their production skills and their ability to manage a genuine client project from concept through to delivery. This initiative marked an important step in our continued community engagement in Hull, and we look forward to building on this momentum as our presence in the city grows.
