Meet our new partners: Safety Revolution – leading specialists in health and safety and risk reduction for rural businesses

McClarrons are pleased to be working with Safety Revolution and highly recommend using a specialist Health & Safety adviser like them to review the risk management and health and safety procedures in your business.

Who are Safety Revolution?

Safety Revolution are the UK’s leading specialists in health and safety and risk reduction for farms, estates and agricultural businesses.

Based in Whitney, the company was started in 2003 by an insurance broker and a farmer who were concerned about the agricultural industry’s poor record in health and safety. Safety Revolution’s aim is to raise the industry standards of health and safety in the agricultural sector, and reduce the risk of injury and fatality for workers.

Working in partnership

We aim to educate and support farmers and rural businesses around health and safety. Something that is important but often missed.

In 2020/21 alone, the HSE reported a 62% increase in fatal injuries in the agricultural industry, compared to the previous year*. In light of this, we shared some of the things you can do to improve farm safety here. In addition, with many reports in the national news about increasing criminal activity on farms, we outlined how to keep your farm and equipment secure here.

With help from Safety Revolution, who really understand the specific health and safety requirements needed for farms, estates and agricultural businesses, we can support you in creating a safer working environment for your staff, visitors and the general public.

The importance of Health & Safety

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers have a duty of care towards themselves, their employees and members of the public.

Morally, businesses need to show they care about the health and safety of their employees. Legally, it is the business’s responsibility to have procedures that reduce potential risks. Financially, managing health and safety can also save money, through reduced insurance premiums, claims, fines and increased business efficiency.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is often a financial concern for farms and agricultural businesses. If a fault or breach of health and safety law is found while the HSE are conducting a visit, the business will have to pay a fine. Fines are based on:

  • The business’s turnover
  • The time it takes the HSE to identify the breach and help put it right
  • The hourly rate of £160, charged from the moment they arrive at the business until the breach itself is found (which could be hours)

Health & Safety Consultancy Solutions

Safety Revolution recognise that many farm, estate and agricultural business owners look for support when thinking about health and safety.

For the last 18 years, Safety Revolution have been helping farms and agricultural businesses across the UK get up and running by delivering and operating high-quality audits and tried and tested safety management systems.

In order to provide tailored advice for your individual business needs, Safety Revolution offer three levels of health and safety consultancy solutions:

Essential Safety

Helping to ensure you are working in and providing a safe place to work, Safety Revolution’s Essential Safety package offers a great place to start. See what the package includes, hourly rate of £160.

Classic Health & Safety Management System

Safety Revolution’s Classic Health & Safety package is designed to assist farms, estates and agricultural businesses in maintaining legal compliance.

Similar to the Essential Safety package, Safety Revolution’s expertly trained specialists produce a detailed and bespoke report containing recommendations and an action plan of improvements in core areas – learn about them here.

Safety Revolution’s regional consultants work with and spend time getting to know your business, to tailor health and safety systems as the years progress. Delivering the package over three years, they will continue to provide you with:

  • Telephone and web-based support
  • Advice, guidance, training and improvement on core areas
  • Annual reviews
  • Maintenance meetings
  • Risk assessments
  • Staff meetings, inductions and trainings

Key Account

The Key Account package is designed for larger agricultural businesses with multiple departments and diverse roles.

Delivered over a 3-year plan, Safety Revolution’s approach is to include all the staff within the business in drafting, reviewing and improving the necessary policy and risk assessments. By discussing each member’s role, they’re able to utilise that person’s expertise to build a robust system.
