We spoke to our new partners, Safety Revolution, who have provided this guest blog post all about health and safety and risk reduction for rural businesses.
Safety Revolution specialises in Health & Safety consultancy designed to assist farms, estates and many rural businesses maintain legal compliance. We aim to raise the industry standards of Health and Safety in the agriculture sector, thereby reducing the risk of injury and fatality to workers. We offer a range of packages to guide clients through the best safety practices for their organisation.
We help by installing bespoke, integrated Health and Safety Management Systems into businesses, and by raising awareness of risks and sharing advice on how to tackle the issues faced by owners, managers, and directors. We offer consultancy in many aspects of health and safety, such as Fire Risk Assessment, HACCP, CoSHH, DSEAR, CDM, and Traffic Risk Assessment.
We pride ourselves on maintaining good relationships with clients through regular site visits, telephone, and web-based support.
Safety Revolution’s aims
Our overriding objective is to reduce the risk of injury or death where we are actively involved in supporting a client. We seek to do this in a positive, constructive manner with the highest standards of professionalism. Everything we do is underpinned by our core values: Loyalty, Honesty, Integrity. We live by those values and have them front of mind as we make decisions and provide advice.
Safety Revolution’s services
Our Health and Safety service includes regular visits throughout the contract and ongoing draft risk assessments and safe working practices, that we work with businesses to bespoke and finalise. Our services cover the following core areas:
- A full and thorough Audit
- Health and Safety Policy
- Health and Safety Procedures
- Risk Assessments
- Basic Fire Advice
- Site Safety and Signage
- Asbestos Management Plan (agricultural and commercial let buildings)
- Staff Induction and Training Plans
- Task-specific Policies (building into a staff handbook)
- Basic CoSHH Guidance
Our service cannot, of course, provide a guarantee that you will not experience Health and Safety issues, but it does ensure, if implemented in full, that your systems are in good order and that you can demonstrate your due diligence if required to do so. The decision to take enforcement action or to prosecute in the case of noncompliance lies with HSE, but often their decision is based on the extent to which the business can demonstrate that it has taken all reasonable measures to provide a safe working environment, and has met its legal obligation to have a competent auditor.
We have recently developed several apps, such as the MeritAgCheck app, that has been designed and built to monitor and record farm safety. Starting with a simple daily vehicle check and defect notification, sent through to management, enables you to build a picture of servicing costs and downtime for an individual piece of equipment
