Success Story – Damaged Digital Advertising Screen Claim Settled the Next Working Day

When accidents happen, knowing exactly where a claim sits can make all the difference. In this case, our Claims Team helped a client secure a swift settlement after a specialist digital display screen was accidentally damaged before installation.

The incident

Our client, a technology installation and managed services provider, was contracted to install a 75 inch digital advertising display at the premises of a major UK supermarket retailer. During unloading, the screen was accidentally damaged before it could be installed.

Although the damage itself was straightforward, establishing which insurance policy should respond was less so.

The challenge

As the screen had not yet been installed or formally handed over, it was initially unclear whether responsibility rested with our client or the retailer. This also raised the question of which section of the insurance programme should respond, with a Goods in Transit, Motor and All Risks policy needing to be considered.

Following a detailed review of the circumstances and the policy wording, it was confirmed that the screen remained our client’s property until installation and sign off, meaning the claim correctly fell under their All Risks policy.

The solution

To avoid delays, our Claims Team gathered all the information the insurer would require from the outset, including photographs, invoices, replacement costs and supporting documentation, before submitting the claim.

As the display was needed to fulfil a contract for a key customer of theirs, our client ordered a replacement immediately while the claim was being assessed.

The outcome

The insurer raised payment the following working day, allowing our client to recover the cost of the screen and delivery after the policy excess.

With the claim resolved quickly, they were able to proceed with the installation and continue supporting an important customer with minimal disruption. The prompt handling and clear communication throughout the process left the client delighted with the outcome.

At McClarrons, we know that even relatively modest claims can have a significant impact on a business.
