McClarrons’ Care & Social Welfare Team Undertakes Specialist Training with Yorkshire Care Group

The McClarrons Care & Social Welfare Team recently took part in specialist training with Yorkshire Care Group to deepen their understanding of the daily challenges faced by our clients.

Who are Yorkshire Care Group?

Yorkshire Care Group was established by Happy Futures Support Specialists, a leading care provider based in Scarborough which specialises in caring for individuals with learning disabilities, high dependency needs, and complex care requirements. You may have heard of McClarrons undergoing training with Happy Futures in the past, in our ‘Caring For Our Clients To Support You With A Happy Future’ blog here.

Yorkshire Care Group is now a privately owned consortium of independent care businesses in Yorkshire, employing over 160 people across the region. Established to promote best practices in social care, the group encompasses several specialised entities, which you can find out more about on their website here.

The group’s mission is to innovate and make a difference at local and regional levels in social care, operating on true family values and fostering a collaborative environment.

Why do we invest in enhancing our Care & Social Welfare Team’s expertise?

McClarrons are well known for our commitment to continually expanding our knowledge to better serve our clients, in the care sector and more broadly. That is why we ask our Care & Social Welfare Team to participate in specialist training covering essential topics that directly impact care providers and the clients they support.

Our team took part in sessions on:

  • Care Quality Commission (CQC) – Understanding the regulatory framework and compliance standards that govern the care sector, ensuring our clients remain fully informed about best practices.

Led by Dave O’Connor, CIA Group Inspector.

  • Introduction to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) – Learning strategies to support individuals with behaviours that challenge, enhancing their quality of life while promoting safe and effective care.

Lead by Michael Short, Business Unit Director at PBS Centre of Excellence, Yorkshire Care Group.

  • Learning Disability & Autism Awareness – Gaining a deeper understanding of the experiences and needs of individuals with learning disabilities and autism, allowing us to better anticipate and address the unique challenges faced by care providers.
  • Managing Complex Needs (Safety Intervention) – Exploring techniques to safely and effectively manage high-dependency individuals while minimising risks and promoting well-being.
  • Adult Safeguarding – Strengthening our knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities to help protect vulnerable individuals and ensure best practices within care organisations.

Led by Bobby Moore, Learning & Development Co-ordinator at Yorkshire Care Group.

We asked our Head of Care & Social Welfare, Jonathan Copley, and Care & Social Welfare Client Advisor, Emily Kilvington, a series of questions to understand their thoughts on the training they received.

  • Why is it important for McClarrons’ Care & Social Welfare Team to receive training from Yorkshire Care Group?

Jonathan: “It’s really important that we understand the sector. We’re telling our clients we are sector specialists, so to have training from domiciliary care agencies, from people involved in the sector, is really important, so we can understand their world as well as the insurance world and try and blend the knowledge. It helps us understand questions underwriters might pose to us and streamline the question sets, look at the risk management of clients and try and positively impact the client in the long run.”

Emily: “I think it’s important because the training that we’re receiving helps us underpin our understanding of the industry, and then we can really relate to our clients when we’re delivering our service to them.”

  • How will the training enhance the quality of service you provide to our Care and Social Welfare clients?

Jonathan: “It’ll help demonstrate our expertise in the sector, in the conversations and terminology that we use, showing clients we have an understanding of their world and that we understand the complexities of it. We can navigate the questions that we perceive will come from underwriters and utilise the training to try and find the right answers and streamline the renewal process or new business process for the clients. And then look at risk management in the future – what does it look like in terms of risk management, the shifts within CQC, the inspection regime, how our underwriters are going to view that and how are we [the client] going to set ourselves up for success in the future?”

Emily: “It helps us when they’re talking about situations or struggles that they’ve had, or when they’re asking us if we can insure a certain part of their service, we can understand what they mean by that. It helps us link our care understanding and our insurance understanding and put that together, and because it’s such a niche industry, you need to be able to do that to understand that they are correctly insured.”

By participating in this training, our team has gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by care providers, allowing us to offer even more tailored insurance advice. A deeper understanding of regulatory requirements, behavioural support techniques, and safeguarding protocols means we are better equipped to assist our clients in mitigating risks and ensuring compliance.

Moreover, in the event of a claim, this knowledge enables us to offer informed guidance and support, ensuring a smoother process for care providers when they need us most.

Ongoing Commitment to Learning

We are dedicated to continuously developing our expertise to provide the highest level of support to our clients. The McClarrons Care & Social Welfare Team looks forward to further training opportunities to refine our knowledge and strengthen our services within the care sector.
